I would like to VEHEMENTLY suggest to readers that they should avoid this particular CVS Pharmacy like the PLAGUE. My family recently had the most awful service that we've ever received at any store... much less any healthcare-related provider. This was the most UNPROFESSIONAL, UNETHICAL, and potentially LIFE DAMAGING incidents of my life, and I hope no one has the misfortune of experiencing a similar event. Here is a brief description of what happened: My four year old daughter earlier had come out of a doctor's visit with a diagnosis of allergy-related asthma and with prescriptions for various medications, including one for an Albuterol inhaler and spacer/pediatric mask. I was able to get the majority of the prescriptions filled at a different location, but I was referred to the CVS on Avocado Blvd to retrieve the spacer/mask. En route to this latter location, my daughter began struggling with her breathing. (As a healthcare worker myself, I knew that getting her the Albuterol would resolve this. I needed to get the mask, however, because it would allow for an easier administration of medication.) Anyway, we pulled up to the store and I grabbed my daughter in one arm and the script in the other. I ran up to the pharmacy counter and requested help from two female technicians by telling them it appeared my daughter was having a minor asthma attack... that I had been sent from another location to pick up a mask. One of the girls said she'd be right with me and proceeded to obtain medication for another customer who was picking up. After a few moments, I turned to the second girl, NICOLE, who then took our script. She began taking some of our information and searching the computer. I assured her we were in the system as we had just come from another location. She insisted on taking my insurance card. I handed it to her, and she continued to look us up in the system. With my daughter in my arms, I told her to please hurry... that I'd be more than able to pay out of pocket if necessary. She said she was having trouble finding me in the system. Exasperated and exhausted, I raised my voice and asked, "What is it going to take for you to see that my daughter needs help NOW?! The paperwork can wait!" Nicole responds by giving me a filthy look, walking away, and informing the pharmacist, Dale, that she is going on her break. We continued to wait for another minute, and I had to repeat my plea to the pharmacist, who seemingly reluctantly made his way over to help us. Although I am grateful for his ultimate assistance, I could have done without his suggestion that I calm down. My daughter is now doing fine, by the way. Which, ironically, seems to be reason enough for our most recent complaints to CVS management NOT to be taken as seriously as I feel they should be. I guess someone has to suffer from a severe asthma complication before they truly feel obliged to take sufficient action. Readers, do yourselves a favor: stay away from this location. If such callousness is within the character of their pharmacy employees, it means they aren't screening their applicants properly. This was not a breakdown in policy and procedure. If a four year old who is clearly struggling with breathing is ignored and her mother's requests for a simple piece of medical equipment is met with such contempt, it means that ANYONE who does business here is at risk for pharmacy misconduct. CAVEAT EMPTOR!
I have been going back and forth with this pharmacy ever since it became CVS. This afternoon was the last straw that just broke the camel's back. I am covered under tricare prime which is military dependents Insurance. I wanted a birth control pill that i specifally requested my doctor for. The staff decided to give me the generic version. I called the pharmacy last Wednesday to get the brand name one, I was told that If I got a new prescription from my doctor they would give me that medication. After calling for 2 days I was told the doctor had not returned the phone call. So I finally called the doctor's office where I was told that they had sent them the prescription on Thursday!!! They flat out lied to me... Then this afternoon I called to check up yet again on my prescription I was told it will be $83. I enquired as to why should that be the case, I was told tricare prime does not cover my medicine, which is a very common birth control pill. Something sounded funny so I called the insurance company and was told that CVS tried to fill my prescription 3 times and it was getting rejected because they had the old generic medication still in there! Morons! Well the best of it comes now... I call back to enlighten the pharmacy staff of this new information... Dale or Dave (who by the way sounds like a circus announcer) picks up the phone. I tell him the entire story, he was so rude and condescending he pretty much said everything he could short of calling me a liar. He even said tricare insurance had no idea what they were talking about... I guess he is the only one who has any information in this world about insurance and medical benefits! He even said my insurance company was giving me bad information and that he was doing this for 30 years and I basically had no idea. When I tried to explain this to him... guess what he did.... would not let me say a word just kept on talking over me... the minute I would say anything he would talk over me! until I was so angry that I hung up and called CVS headquarters to make a complaint... I hope that his "30 years" of experience will also teach him how to talk to customers. Needless to say as soon as this matter is resolved I will NEVER shop there again!
