I am very disappointed at this dentist office without even been there! After months of having scheduled appointments as new patients (for regular clean up), they call to reschedule my appointments for Dec. 31 (today is 12/5, my appoints. were for 12/9)!! Perhaps this was convenient to the Humana provider going on vacation??? I explained that moving the dates meant for me to also having re-arrange with my daughter's ortho to remove braces before cleaning, and put them back after cleaning. There was no trying to help me at all. No offer to put me on a waiting list....nothing. So I cancel all 4 appointments for my family. I can take my business somewhere else where they are true professionals. The person who called, who is not to be blamed, was apologetic, more like embarrassed. Not her fault. But I can't recommend a place that has no consideration for their "soon to be" patients. If that's how they are going to treat NEW patients, I can't imagine how they will treat you afterwards. As far as I know this is a new dental office in the Gainesville area (at least that's what the card in the mail said). But this is not the way to attract new clients!! I will be letting all my UF and Facebook friends know...
I arrived early for my appointment and found the front desk empty and others waiting in the room. After a few minutes, I called out and someone came from the back and said they were all in a meeting. Shortly, the receptionist came out and handed me some paperwork they needed filled out. I found it strange that they would leave the front area unoccupied with all the medical records available to anyone who wanted to reach in and grab them. They took me back to a large room with four stations. Each chair was in front of a large window which looked out onto dense foliage which I thought was very calming. One thing I didn't like was this arrangement had as much privacy as a beauty salon. There were partitions that separated the four stations but they didn't go to the ceiling and only blocked the head of the chair. You could see the other patient's feet and you could hear their conversations with the staff. Perhaps that doesn't bother others but I found it a little disconcerting. It appeared to me that there weren't a lot of people who knew what was going on. Everyone seamed to have problems with running the computers, even the dentist didn't know how to use a camera that was used to take close-up pictures of teeth. She eventually got it to work but I found it strange that she was not familiar with the tools of her trade. The most disconcerting thing was how the dentist used the camera. This was one of those things that didn't occur to me until I had left the office and was driving home. When she came in, she was carrying the camera which was wand-like in appearance where the tip of the wand held the camera and some LED lights. They put a sanitary plastic sleeve over the tip before they put the camera into my mouth. The plastic sleeve blurred the picture so much they removed it and then took several pictures. What I didn't realize until much later was I don’t think they cleaned it prior to using it on me. Who knows how many people handled that wand with their bare hands prior to it being inserted into my mouth? Lastly, when I came to where you check out, they surprised me with a $57.00 charge. I told them my insurance covers check-ups and cleaning twice a year at no charge. They then told me that one of the x-rays they took was not covered and my co-pay was $57.00. When I told them I was not aware this procedure was going to be extra, they told me they had informed me that there might be additional charges for the two types of x-ray they took. Perhaps they were thinking of some other patient because they defiantly did not say that to me. If they had told me that, I would have declined the additional procedure. When I got home, I called my insurance company to find the additional x-ray was indeed covered and I should not have been charged anything for my visit. When I called back, the office manager said she would check with the insurance company and get back with me. She did call back and indicated I was correct. When I gave her my card number so she could credit the account, she inadvertently put another $57.00 charge on the account. She was able to put a $57.00 credit on the account but at the time of this writing, (almost 24 hours) the second $57.00 credit is yet to show up. She said it would take up to three days for the credit to appear. I will be watching for it. Everyone was very friendly and courteous but there were several that need some training on the equipment. The office was clean, as one would expect, and parking was right at the door. Regardless, I think I will find another dentist.
