I wasn't at Vista but on Unit 82. Glad to see nothing has changed. I was kept there exactly 30 days suddenly I was able to go home. Almost went through the court process. You are correct in all you say, too bad it will not be any different in years to come. Those of us with a mental illness are all believed to be incompetent idiots.

Shands Vista has one of the worst reputations among its former patients. It is part of a highly regarded internationally known hospital that no overseeing agency will investigate when complaints are made by its former mental health consumers. Patients with insurance coverage and no family or other caring support risk being detained at the hospital involuntarily and summoned to competency court and lied about in order to maximize the length of their stay at the hospital. Communication with patients regarding their situation as it relates to their symptoms, situation, or what type of assistance they need appear to be a low priority if even a priority at all. Patients risk being misdiagnosed, forced to take experimental drugs against their will, and/or forced to take high dosages of psychotropic drugs and risk leaving the hospital too chemically impaired to protect themselves or resolve survival issues.
