Southern Hills Counseling Center

Horrible horrible horrible. Messed up my appointments many times and just overall horrible atmosphere and counseling.
As a recent (past) client here, we were referred by Toyota, SHCC is a preferred provider - we intend to share our opinion with Toyota as well. Let's begin with scheduling. Twice we arrived for schedule appointments to discover that the assigned therapist had "assumed we had cancelled" or "double booked themselves". We shouldn't have to state the level of unprofessionalism here. Next, let's discuss the facility. The building is older, and apparently the heat doesn't work. The lobby areas and waiting rooms are in disrepair and unclean. The offices (we were in three different offices) are heated with space heaters. During our time as clients we met with two extremely unkempt therapists whose offices were filthy, their desks and every other surface covered in papers, trash, plants that had been dead for well over a year, and candy wrappers. Neither office had seen a vacuum in months. Both therapists were underdressed, unprofessional and undereducated. We were referred to a supervisor whose office was very neat and clean, he was extremely knowledgeable and well educated, but again his office was heated with a space heater. In addition he showed up for one appointment 20 minutes late, and another time we arrived for a scheduled appointment and he acted as if we were there at the wrong time but he would "rearrange his schedule" for us, until we handed him the appointment card he wrote for us.
Horrible treatment facility. I disliked this company because of the way I was treated as a patient, and then I read this. If they treat their employees this way, how do you think they will treat you as a patient? I want everyone to know what a truly shameful and unethical company Southern Hills is. As you may or may not know my wife Sherri Libbert was a mental health RN at Southern Hills at their Tell City, Indiana location. She was hospitalized over Christmas and New Years of this year and once she got out of the hospital she was instructed by her doctors to take time off work. Southern Hills told her if she didn't come in she was going to be fired. So she went in against medical advice and that first day back her supervisor told her they needed somebody more reliable in this position. Sherri asked the human resources director about the company's long term disability insurance as she knew she was sick. The human resources person told her what are you talking about we don't have that. However, their employee handbook and their website do indeed say all employees have long term disability insurance. Since she was told this she decided to tough it out and go to work. That lasted for a few days. On the following Monday she went to work and was feeling bad. Her immediate supervisor took her to Perry County Memorial Hospital where she was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism in each lung and she was going into congestive heart failure. On the ride to the hospital Sherri had again mentioned the long term disability insurance to her immediate supervisor and was told she would talk to the human resource director on her behalf about it. Sherri was transferred to Deaconess Gateway via ambulance. A few days later her Southern Hills supervisor called her in the hospital and asked for the password to her work computer. Sherri took the opportunity to again ask about the long term disability insurance. She was told the human resources person was putting that together for her now. On Saturday Sherri took a turn for the worse she went into respiratory failure and ended up getting admitted to ICU where they stabilized her, but unfortunately nothing seemed to be helping her. Sunday morning she again took a turn for the worse and was put on life support. The doctor told her at the time she had only a 50/50 chance of surviving this hospitalization. She is currently sedated to the point of unconscious, on life support and feeding tubes in hopes that this will help her fight this monster. In two to three days we will know if she is going to survive or not. So guess what I find in my Saturday mail when I read it Sunday morning. Not long term disability paperwork as promised by her supervisor, but rather a termination notice informing Sherri she was terminated. I guess I will read it to her if she regains consciousness. Her medical insurance is ending on 1/31 they dated her termination date the 20th of January and counted her as totally absent that day despite the fact she was at work and her supervisor drove her to the hospital. They said since she didn't show up that day she was fired and no long term disability insurance. Her life insurance was also terminated. For all of you that work at Southern Hills I urge you take a long hard look at your employer because if you ever happen to find yourself dying in the hospital you will likely be terminated via mail and stripped of all your benefits when you need them most. I want to say most of the employees at Southern Hills are good people, but for those of you that participated by directly lying to Sherri and defrauding her of her benefits you are truly despicable human beings and I want you to think every day about an 8 year old little girl that loves her mommy more than anything in the world, and the grieving family that is by her side watching her suffer and waiting for her to wake up. Please share this I want everyone to know how awful and inhuman the management at Southern Hills is.
