I think the radiology department is top-notch here. There isn't a better option in western mass

My daughter went in to the Emergency Room with pain in her stomach and severe vomitting. It ended up that she needed an appendecomy. Every single person was compassionate, caring and insanely busy. The ER was 6-12 people deep. The phlobotomist was sent to take blood in an alcove of the ER waiting room. She had to recover in ICU because her floor was just putting back the furniture from an HVAC issue. The surgeon and the anesthesiologist both cared and remembered that she is a singer. A nurse from ICU looked her up and checked on her via a private message on Facebook. The amount of caring and compassion was overwhelming. I would absolutley recommend this hospital.

My mother has been to Baystate twice in the last month. The CNAs are excellent. The nurses are rude. If I call to ask how my mom is doing I am told nurse is too busy to talk to me. They have their faces stuck in computers and no time for family members and less time for patients. The real workers: clean, serve food and do much more for the patients. I hope my mom never has to go back. I have spent time at John Hopkins in Baltimore. Nurses are much better. More time for patients and family. They say both hospitals are non-profit but Baystate can't come close to John Hopkins. It is awful. Build more parking space for doctors but don't put enough help on. Whoever is in charge of Baystate is way overpaid.

I have had many experiences at Baystate, 90% excellent. The other 10% were VERY bad ones. All the staff I've had contact with were great. One CNA was particulary kind to me and everyone else. She was so attentive it was amazing. Have had many surgeries and tests and xrays done there over the years. We are very blessed to have this fine facility in Western Mass. As far as the addition, it is very nice but seems to be very understaffed. That was July 2013.
