doesn't deserve one star... horrible service, bums picking through trashcans out front, store doesn't seem to mind, as long as you don't pay for anything, i just got done paying for 130$ worth of groceries, got ambushed and accused of stealing a 5$ sandwich, they check the receipt, laughed at me an let me out with the stuff that i obviously payed for, all and all, very abusive staff, bad food and high prices... dirty as f**k, if your gonna buy food, don't do it at a store that disposed of 15,000$ worth of meat and ten times that in food during a blackout because they were too cheap to pay for a generator, meanwhile they have employees guarding the food so that no-one will take any, none of Bangor 27.6% that live below the poverty line... this way they can wastefully dispose of it properly... or not so properly, food pantries in this city are so understocked, i volunteer at one... i know... and guess what, they still haven't payed for a generator, and when the power goes out again, which it will, because this is Maine... they will waste yet another 15,000x5 more worth of food while a quarter of the city goes hungry... -BF
Their meat products are very over priced, as well as other items. Not the low low prices they used to have. Even though the economy is bad right now even other supermarkets have had lower prices than Hannafords. Also a lot of their employees seem to be under feet all the time. I understand they need to do their jobs but some of them just run back and forth and cut customers off all the time. Like this one very tall guy that at 3 different times was right on my heels and I felt pushed and rushed. Also they have too many standies in the way (you know those cardboard stands with junk for sale) that tend to block customers so we end up bottle necked waiting for each other. I don't mind standies but they have had too many of them. Though the Union Street Mall Hannafords has far fewer standies than the one out on Broadway. I've stopped shopping all together at the one on Broadway because the huge amount of standies and of course their liquor Isle the barricades the fruit veggie area from the other sections of the store... it's almost like they are forcing booze in your face. That doesn't even seem like it matches that area of the stores. Even the one on Union street has it near the veggie and pasta area. If I do have anything good to say it's that they do have fresher fruit and fresh vegtables than other places like Shaws. So I do more often pick up my veggies, melon, and fruit at Hannafords. In the past their low prices muscled out the competition so now there is basically no competition they are jacking up their prices. The only other place to shop is Shaws but their stuff is not good. My room mate brought home a bag of potatoes from Shaws and it was mostly rotten inside. So I'd have to say Hannafords does better by comparison. Also like I said I don't like feeling like employees at Hannafords are running in front of us all the time or that they are right on our heals acting like we are in their way when we are the ones that pay their salary.
Nice service.
