As an existing patient of Dr. duke, I went to a yearly check up. I was never informed that they are now out of network with my insurance (even after they verified my insurance info before the visit.) When questioning the copay that was initially $35, I was told it was not incorrect and was then sprung with an additonal $99 dollar co-pay for a "medical evaluation" on top of the usual eye exam co-pays. I felt that this issue was very poorly explained by the staff and handled extremely poorly by the staff. At no time was I explained the insurance coverage or the procedures that would be performed. Questionable billing practices!!
I didn't have to walk through the doors to have an unpleasant experience. Upon setting up my appointment the receptionist, Vicky I believe, informed me that I was not on the insurance under my fiances name. Easy fix, my fiance called the insurance company and they admitted they made a mistake and put me on as a dependent. I called back to talk to Vicky and make sure everything was okay. Apparently it was not. She questioned me about our engagement, when we were going to get married, and how I could be covered under insurance when we are not. I explained that we have been together for 3 years and live in a domestic partnership which is recognized by the state and the insurance company as a legal marriage. I understand people attempt insurance fraud and her questioning me was a precaution. But the way that she talked to me was like I did something wrong. When in fact the insurance company had the slip up. I cancelled my appointment and a few days later they called "confirming" my appointment I previously cancelled. Not only are they rude they're negligent. I have never dealt with any company with so much attitude and all I have to say is it was not just Vicky it was EVERY PERSON I TALKED TO. RUDE. GET OFF OF YOUR HIGH HORSE AND HAVE SOME MANNERS.
Dr. Duke worked with me to find out everything he could about my symptoms, explained them well to me, and has provided the extra mile (several extra miles) in service and care. He is knowledgeable and respectful of me as a patient. You know how some doctors discount or disregard your symptoms when their scans don't detect them? When Dr. Duke's scans didn't detect my symptoms he furthered the effort, looking more and more and doing other tests. My condition is extremely hard to detect, even though Dr. Duke has some of the best technology in the area. He went so far as to refer me to a specialist in that part of the eye. I really felt like he believed me about what I am experiencing, and he truly wants to help. I recommend Dr. Duke wholeheartedly. I know I can trust him to be diligent with my case.
