I took my 16 year old niece who was visiting from out of town into the Murrell's Inlet office, as it appeared that she had something in her right eye. The obnoxious nurse who would not even acknowledge that an adult in the room was speaking to her proceeded to write down that she was having problems with the opposite eye. (This was not what we had stated) She then without permission, and without informing my niece (the patient) or myself (the adult in the room) dilated her eyes. I discussed my frustration with this procedure being done without any prior consent with the Doctor, while discussing this, Maureen, the nurse came in the room interrupted me and begain to very obnoxiously speak over me. As the Doctor watched the nurse and witnessed this very unprofessional behavior he then explained that the nurse was defending herself. Needless to say, I will not be going back to this practice. Under no circumstance should they have proceeded with the dilation without 1. informing the patient, 2. explaining the procedure, and 3. without obtaining parental or guardian consent (as she is 16 years old.) This experience has me in pursuit of a more pleasant and professional eye doctor. After two hours, an unnecessary dilation, and dealing with a very obnoxious nurse (Thank you for making our day Maureen!) it was determined that there was nothing in her right eye. Please beware.
