The staff in emergency and the ward were outstanding. The accommodation was shocking. I am an elderly lady and I was put into a ward with 3 men. This is degrading, embarrassing and third world. I can understand that having shared wards for similar conditions is a sign of the times unfortunately but to have shared gender wards is shameful. The fact that I was a private patient only made things worse. Not only would the hospital receive payment from my health fund but evidently there are no private rooms in the hospital so all I received for the considerable health fund charges I pay was a free TV (which wasn't connected), a free newspaper and a phone. I doubt that any of our politicians would be put into, let alone stay in, a mixed gender ward. I realise that the hospital does its very best with limited resources so it's up to our parliamentary representatives to push for changes to our hospital funding.

Port Macquarie Base Hospital..to be avoided at all costs!!! Go for the surgery stay for the complications never a truer word spoken .
