Kalamunda Dental Care

The team at Kalamunda Dental Care are great. Myself and my young children have been going there for two years since we moved from Sydney, but I have recently persuaded my husband to attend as he has been avoiding the dentist for ten years. He was treated so gently and in a very kind and professional manner. They have taught him how to care fro his teeth, and am really happy he will now be a regular attender, and even flosses his teeth !
I was a patient at this practice for several years, but had only ever had check ups and 1 filling (only one in my mouth). At my last 6 monthly check up the dentist, Ania, suggested I have fissure seals on 8 teeth and this was booked for 6 months later. When I came to the appointment I was surprised that the work was to be done by the hygienist, not the dentist. The hygienist was good at scaling and cleaning the teeth but my fissure sealing experience was a nightmare. After doing the air abrasion on one side, I felt that something was not right, particularly as at one point she had me holding the suction equipment in my own mouth. After she'd done one side, I felt too much had been taken off and I was quite upset at this point and suggested it was a bad idea. Fortunately, the air abrasion hand piece broke on the first tooth on the other side so she could not continue. In the end she was only able to seal three of the four teeth on first side. The seals were terrible and all really overfilled; not so much sealing the fissures but rather the entire surface of the tooth. Having had fissure seals previously, I knew this was wrong but both the hygienist and the receptionist tried to convince me it was normal. The hygienist tried to reduce one a bit but it was still ridiculously high. I'm not sure if hygienists are actually trained to do re-shaping? Anyway, despite that I was clearly fairly distressed, at no point did they get the actual dentist which I think was a serious failure. They in fact just tried to tell me it should feel all weird and plastic and that I would 'get used to it', again having had fissure seals previously, I knew this wasn't right. They said I should come back in a week and the dentist could do the rest of the fissure seals. Instead I went to a totally different practice on short notice where the principal dentist confirmed that not only were all of the fissures seals too high, they had bubbles between the tooth and the seals. I had to have all the excess material removed to have my bite fixed and he had to open the bubbles and re-do the seals. This dentist suggested I did not need the work on the remaining teeth and since the three she did do were in the same state it's clear I didn't need the seals at all. Two days later I discovered she'd cut what felt like a wide channel on the one tooth she touched on the other side. I had to see a second independent dentist to remove the roughness left there. The second dentist also stated that the seals 'did not look right' and I did not need the work done in the first place and that now I would have to monitor these teeth specially to ensure stuff wasn't under the seal. I regret so much ever letting this happen, I wish I had my old teeth back, there was nothing wrong with them. I will never go to Kalamunda Dental Care again.
