Southmead Hospital

this must be the least friendly website possible, wanted oncology - no links anywhere, the haematology link went to the lab.......waited ages for switchboard to respond as to where my colleague, who was an inpatient, could be traced. It appears very much that whoever designed this did not actually intend the public to actually access information. One wonders at the cost.. Switchboard were amazingly helpful - they rang several wards and departments in an effort to trace the patients. As usual the 'shop floor' came to the rescue ........thankyou switchboard
Took hours for my friend to get seen to and be given any pain relief, had to ask several times for them to take any notice, waited for hours to only be told she had to stay over night, didn't even get a bed, just a arm chair in the assisted seating area. The doctors and chief nurses seemed more interested in paper work then the patients, only two lovely women who seemed to be doing their job to the fullest were two other nurses and were running around after everyone. Still waiting for results now, 20 hours after being admitted! I am so grateful for the NHS but people still need high standards of care!
I walked into this so called Brand New Spanking New Hospital and was quite surprised at how much space there was, I felt like I was in an airport rather than a hospital. Everywhere I went there was just so much space and I was told that there were fewer beds than there should have been. Rather than building a hospital to look appealing, practicality should have been the main focus. Although it may be good for the patients it failed to keep the family and friends informed until several hours of being left in the dark, whilst Drs & Nurses walked back and forth whilst on their mobiles. We kept asking but the staff were so unhelpful and it wasn't until a complaint was made that they finally took notice. I know its just getting on its feet but it has a long way to go before I think it will be worth the time and effort put into merging the two hospitals. They should have improved Frenchay rather than Southmead in my opinion. Each to their own but I was really unimpressed.
After taking an hour to find a parking space we then went to the airport terminal we then got to try out 2 waiting room before we got to see the consultant boarding a plane is easyier Oh how I miss Frenchay
Outpatient view. This new facility promises much and fails to deliver. Our experience has been that the outpatient booking system is simply not fit for purpose. It seems that the system has been provided by the PFP but its design fails to match the structure of the Trust's outpatient clinics. The Trust and it's PFP partner need to sort it out and quickly as it currently causes significant frustration to the staff who are trying to make it work and the patients who ultimately suffer.
