A+ Tender Dental Care (Basha's Plaza)
Reviews
Dr. Jenny Wang does not work out of this office, Dr. Ekatrina Pollard works out of this office with a small support staff. Due to a demographic of an older, retired population, there are a LOT of dental offices to choose from in in the Sun City - Sun City West areas. This office is located in a strip mall - it's not fancy, like some dental offices. The staff is very friendly. They accept most discount dental plans, as well as dental insurance. I answered a local ad offering an inexpensive checkup that included cleaning. The purpose of these type of ads is to get you into the office, and the exam will usually find something more serious that needs attention, thereby serving two purposes: additional revenue for the dentist, and acquiring a new patient for long term dental care. This turned out to be my case. My exam showed that I had three molars with cracks in them and I was advised to get them crowned. Well .... crowns are not cheap by any means. I was a little surprised by this news since all my previous dental work in New England mainly involved cavities (I did have one crown done several years ago). So, was this checkup a "bait and switch" scheme to get me to spend a lot of money doing unnecessary dental work? To her credit, Dr. Pollard has equipment that can take real-time close-up digital photos of the patient's teeth showing any external anomalies that are in the x-rays. As we age, our molars develop stress cracks. Such a tooth could fail next week; or next year, or in five years. You just don't know when it's going to fail. So what to do? I decided to forgo getting new crowns and instead opted for getting my teeth cleaned and taking care of a couple of cavities. A few months later, a small piece came off one of the aforementioned cracked molars. That scared me; so I had it crowned. A year later, I returned for my annual checkup and discovered that the cracks in the other molars had gotten slightly worse. Closeup TV images showed me exactly what was happening. I decided to get all the cracked molars crowned before things got any worse. Keep in mind that this whole process took about a year and a half. Dr. Pollard did a great job and she has a nice gentle touch. She listened to my concerns and took the time to explain various options between porcelain and gold and did not push for me to commit to any specific course of action.
