Tucson Smiles Pediatric Dentistry
Reviews
I cannot express enough how thrilled we were with Tucson Smiles. My 7-year old daughter needed four teeth extracted. We had a bad experience at a different dentist, which resulted in no teeth being extracted, only tears. I was so worried about the added anxiety that would bring to this visit. The staff were all very friendly. Dr. Priya was amazing. She was up front with me. She told me that it might only be possible to remove two teeth per visit, but that she would try to get all four if my daughter was handling it well (she wound up getting all four done). She gave me a printed cost estimate sheet (something not provided by our other dentist). She spoke in a calm voice. She spoke of “magic air” not just “Nitrous Oxide” (it was an added bonus that this time the laughing gas had a pleasant smell). She didn’t discredit things my daughter said (even if under this sedation, it is “pressure” not “pain” that one feels, no one wants to continually be told that they are not hurting, when they feel that they are). She was patient with my daughter, and gave her breaks when she needed them. She gently pushed on my daughter’s shoulder to show her what she was going to do in her mouth. She let her know when she was almost done. She listened patiently to her when she had her stop (many times) to repeat that she was tired. She kept encouraging her and telling her how good she was doing. This may sound silly, but you could tell she has children of her own, and has developed the skills to make their experiences as positive as possible.
We got a referral for my son to see this office. Our usual office is great Discovery Smiles so I figured Tucson Smiles would be just as good. I call to make an appointment for my child and the receptionist answers. You know the tone of someone who's been interrupted and not too happy about it. Yah that's what I got. Ok whatever maybe she's having a bad day I can deal. I've been a receptionist before. All I have to do is make an appointment and we're done right. No! She goes on in her annoyed tone and asks for my information. I start with giving her my name. She asks me how to spell it and I do. I spell my name 3 times and each time she asks with that same tone. Then she asks for info on my other half and same thing. But this time she says very rudely that she cant hear me and at this point she's frustrated to the point that I can hear her breathing. So finally I cant take it anymore. And as soon as I say Im just going to try somewhere else. Total attitude shift!!! With the sweetest voice says Are you sure? And trying so hard not to blow up on the phone I say yes this just isn't going to work out. I say thank you and hang the phone. I can definitely say that I will never try this office thanks to whoever works the receptionist desk on Tue@ 10:30.
Took my children to this office for over three years with no issues however, the last visit I was nine minutes late due to circumstances beyond my control at my children's school. They canceled my appointment when I called in at the appointment time to advise I was 10 minutes behind (mind you I was 30 minutes from my home at this point). I was at their door nine minutes after the scheduled time and they still refused to see me. I will spending my insurance's money and my money at another dentist.
My three children have seen Dr. Priya, Dr. Hishaw and their wonderful team and have had nothing but positive experiences. Recently my son had an extremely complicated issue with his molar and Dr. Priya, with her expertise and patience, was able to correct the problem. I have nothing but great things to say about this practice.
I wasn't sure if my 2 year old should see my Dentist or a specialized Pediatric Dentist. A friend highly recommended Tucson Smiles Pediatric Dentistry and I'm so glad that I took her recommendation! The entire staff was patient and helpful. The Doctors were kind and took the time to explain treatment options to keep my child's teeth healthy. When I was young we went to our parents' Dentist. Times have definitely changed for the better!
