Michael J. Purcell, D.D.S., P.C. - Pediatric Dentistry
Reviews

My 3 kids saw Dr. Purcell twice last year, the experiences were great. However, in January 2014, I had scheduled appointments for my kids to be seen in the Pueblo West office at least a month ahead of time. A day before our appointment, the receptionist calls from his office and says that due to scheduling conflicts, that my kids appointments will have to be rescheduled. At that time, I understood, and we rescheduled for two weeks later. Two weeks later, the day before our scheduled appointments, the same girl calls and says that again, due to scheduling conflicts, that she would have to reschedule my kids appointments. I was very frustrated that this happened not once but twice. I voiced my frustration to her, she apologized and assured me that this would not happen again. We scheduled appointments a THIRD time for two weeks out, and what do you know, I get another call informing me that there were scheduling conflicts but that Dr. Purcell can see my kids at the Fortino office instead. I live and work in Pueblo West, so this was inconvenient and not going to happen. What a poor scheduling system this office has. I wrote a letter to Dr. Purcell and the office manager regarding the issues that we had experienced, and of course, never heard back. What a waste of time. Needless to say, we found another pediatric dentist without scheduling issues.

The best thing this office did was hire a poor office manager who never returned phone calls. I would call weekly. My son had an initial exam with Dr Mike where it was discovered he had cavities. I REFUSED to sign an open consent to restraints at any given time in the office, even for a routine cleaning and they are not good with children. Instead of talking my son through something in the exam, they were just like well, you won't let us tie him down and he won't cooperate. He's THREE and it's his first dentist visit. Dr. Mike said my child had 6 cavities and when I tried asking questions, he would get up before I was done talking and then have to sit back down to finish listening to me. He was very impatient. There were so many red flags. He also considered my child a candidate for in office sedation, despite his asthma. I got so fed up, because this office has no idea how Tricare works and could never return a phone, I gave up. I took my son up to an office in Springs and it couldn't have been better! They talked my son through everything, gently, calmly, and on his terms. The dentist was extremely willing to listen to my concerns and explain things. My son even allowed them to get bitewing Xrays. There was absolutely NO mention of restraints for a routine exam, and it turns out, he only had two cavities! It also turned out, with his asthma, he was not a candidate at all for in office sedation. We chose a pediatric anesthesiologist with our dentist in Springs and his cavities were filled. He even sealed the rest of his molars- and didn't charge us for it! I am SO glad this office has terrible policies and communication skills, it pushed me to find someone much better and I couldn't be happier. You couldn't pay me to come back to this place and I would never recommend it.

Dr Mike and his staff are excellent and I trust in the dental care that they have provided for our children. My son had a cavity filled today and Dr Mike's work is so smooth and gentle that my son had no idea that a needle was used to numb the area. The fillings also look great.

Dr. Purcell's office staff is the absolute worst to deal with. After spending many months trying to get my son scheduled for his surgery, I finally had to search for another pediatric dentist. I am actually greatful now that they did not follow through! The dentist I found in Colorado Springs was a blessing. I want to say "Thank you" to Dr. Purcell's office for not doing what you were supposed to do!!

My kids look forward to going to the dentist! They can't wait! Every visit is fun and the staff is phenomonal! I have 3 boys ages 6,4, and 2 and they are full of curiousity and energy! The staff is engaging and enthusiastic in teaching the boys and answering their every question. We never have a long wait and that makes it nice. The atmosphere is fun and full of amazing murals. We recieve text reminders and birthday wishes. They are very organized. Dr. Mike is great as well. I highly recommend Dr. Purcell for your pediatric dentist! I wish I could see him myself :)
