Kathy Sale - November 03, 2013

This review is just now being posted due to the following circumstances. Last year I had my eyes checked here on Nov 30th and was told I had a "small cataract" growing behind my right eye but it was nothing to be concerned about at this stage. Well okay... So it was time to have my eyes checked again just to ensure that cataract hasn't grown any. However, I wasn't happy at all with what Marion Eye Center charged me for the following: Comprehensive Examination $185; Refraction Basic $59; a cheap looking pair of single vision frames $69; Single vision lenses $43; AR-Crizal Easy UV (this is anti-glare coating for lenses) $74; co-pay exam $30; and of course tax for IL $1.86 - total came to $461.86 -- to top it all off, I get another bill for $30, so now we are at $491.86 - end of that story. I will not go back there because I felt like I got totally ripped off. I kept telling myself, I needed to shop local to help support local businesses. What a lie I was feeding myself! I support myself and have to watch my spending and this was not affordable to me -- I do not have vision insurance to cover all of those gouged prices they gave me, plus I am not happy with those ugly glasses I got there. Did I mention those ugly plastic frames were tagged at $138 and they "discounted" them to $69...what a rip off! So, this past week I go to Wal-Mart on the west side in Evansville Indiana to inquire about their prices for the very same thing I had done at Marion Eye Center in Carmi Il last year. Folks I nearly fell out of my chair when I was quoted a total of $231.40 for very same type of eye exam (the complete eye exam is only $50 there!!), TWO PAIR OF CLASSY LOOKING GLASSES, ONE IS A PAIR OF PRESCRIPTION SUN GLASSES!! So far so good! I had my exam yesterday (Saturday) and the doctor told me I did have a very small "cloudy" spot behind my right eye that would take years to form into a cataract. The reason for my review...I WILL NOT SHOP LOCAL AGAIN WITHOUT COMPARING PRICES TO OTHER BUSINESSES. Wal-Mart --- You have a lifetime customer here for vision needs. Marion Eye Center -- you have my permission to destroy my folder there because I will not be back!

In the past few weeks I have dealt wth them. Our 1st appt was changed due to "dr" emergency then when we finally got in it took 2 1/2 hours to do a eye exam..almost 1 1/2 hours was waiting, Then the selection of glasses they had was limited, Today when we went to pick up the glasses, they did not ask my son if he could see through them or anything about his vision, they just said they fit his face.

This place is not that great as stated above. They messed up my insurance and said it would be a week before I got my glasses and it's about to be 2 weeks. They need to get organized and know more about insurance.
