The worst dentist I have ever encountered. Run, do not walk, to another dentist. had receptionist cancel treatment. Would not return a call. This, after spending a week in pain waiting for second visit. It is against ethical standards to have unlicensed receptionist discuss dentistry, or to not provide referral , follow-up.
First things first: 1) I am a former employee, and was fired for nearly breaking an x-ray machine. 2) It's been a long time since I worked there (2006), so I've been removed enough to have perspective on it. I will say this now: I was extremely unqualified for the tasks I was given when I was hired. Unqualified in every sense of the word: no special training, no dental experience, nothing. And I was assisting with cleanings, extractions, root canals, you name it. Truth is, I should not have been anywhere near a dental office, yet there I was for a summer job. I thought I was going to be there just to file and do paper work. The dentist himself barely talked to me, and was much more concerned about supporting his hobby (airplanes) than really doing his job as a dentist. His work seemed shoddy and careless, although my eye is untrained so don't take my word for it (although the other reviewers seem to confirm this). So the main takeaways here: 1) staff may or may not be qualified to be doing the job they are doing. Be aware of that going in. 2) the dentist himself is not friendly. Any small talk he makes is a means to an end, not a sign of legitimate caring. 3) the work quality seems questionable at best, and probably a result of the dentist simply not caring as much about his work as much as he does about airplanes. There are several far superior options in the Houghton/Hancock area, I can assure you. If your insurance is accepted by those other options, I suggest you go there for caring and peace of mind. If you must come here, then be prepared for the points above.
The reception desk is very friendly, while the dentist is not. He always behaves very impatient and doesn't care for his patient at all. He did the filling for my teeth, and it fell off after 2 days. Strongly not recommended.
BEST DENTIST AROUND HANDS DOWN
I have to agree with Dan. I went in to have fillings done, which I had never had done before. I didn't know what to expect, but what I found was what looked like a scary hunting lodge. Okay, getting past appearances, the receptionist made it seem like a friendly place, so I'm ready to go in for my filling. Before starting, the dentist complains to me about how late it is (about 3 or 4 on a Friday) and how he hopes we can get done soon so that he can go do more fun things. The first dental hygienist was young, but good. She was very careful and gentle. About half-way through the procedure, though, the dentists starts yelling and having an argument with one of his helpers outside the room (I had four fillings so he was taking breaks in between) and when he comes back in, an older lady takes over the young hygienist's position. She continuously pokes me in the mouth, throat and gums with the suctioning equipment, and she even gets some of the filling fluid on my lips, which burns quite a bit. When I asked her about it, she seemed not to be able to see it and told me not to worry. The anesthesia wore off half way through, and the dentist had to stick me three or four times to get the area numb again. After all of that, my fillings continue to hurt, and it's been about 4 months since then. I would strongly urge you to avoid this place.
