I recently had my daughter there and I found them to be very efficient. They took not only excellent care of me, but of my daughter as well. The nurses were sweet and always asked how they could make me more comfortable or if they could get me anything. In addition, both the nurses and the doctors answered any questions that I had, no matter how simple or complex they were. They explained procedures, what was going to happen, followed my birth plan, etc. . . I would recommend having a baby there.
If I could give them less than 1 Star, I would. The problem is lack of accountability, lack of quality control in their medical staff, and lack of interest in-general. Every time I go into this place I hope that the care will have improved, but no luck. I've been there five times in the past thirteen months for the same persistent problem. One GP said it's just laryngitis, ignoring the fact I'd had it for three months, then a second gave up after a few tries of antibiotics. Finally they referred me to an ENT who repeatedly insists I have Acid Re-flux and that's the cause, even though I took the medicine he prescribed for four months and it did nothing. Each time I returned he's said the same thing. I had to go to Riverview in Crookston just to get blood-work and a chest x-ray done. In either case, I'm still sick and no one at Altru will treat me. Meanwhile, I haven't been able to speak correctly for 13 months. They don't give a shit about you as long as they get paid.
Altru will try to submit the highest dollar amount to your insurance companies that they can. Instead of running an Ultra Sound first, they did an xray and seeing that it was with cartilage in my back, a doctor should probably know that. Turns out it was a herniated disc (which is very painful) and from what our "dr" could tell from the xray, she suggested I might have a mild form of scoliosis. Once she finally decided I should get an MRI, she asks "you have insurance don't you?" Four weeks pass from when my initial visit was until my MRI, I went through physical therapy for the disc which also turns out it can aggravate it more by doing this. Also good luck getting someone to call you back to go over test results or fill a medication. If East Grand wasn't East Grand, we'd go to Sanford.
I will start off by saying that my Dr. was wonderful. Dr Brian Widley was wonderful. I had a c-section and another dr actually did that for me. She was also wonderful, but thehospital was horrible. They kept giving me different medications for high blood pressure. It started out 144/90 and they thought that was to high at the time so they gave me something else. I must have had 5 different meds. not to mention at least 10 different drs seeing me. Finally after 4 days of being there and my blood pressures reaching 180/110 they let me out and told me they did everything they could do and told me to see my Dr when I got home. I did. My dr told me they should have never done that and that it made my blood pressures worse. The meds conteracted each other. Terrible. . . The nicu was a terrible place also. GO to minot if a nicu is needed. Dr zack was amazing. She took care of my son. Grand Forks never seemed to be watching the babies. They where always in there breakroom eating. Also I had walked in at one point and found one baby laying in its own vomit. I told a nurse and the baby continued to lay there for another 10 mins without help. I got my daughter out of there within 2 days. They seemed to want to just keep her for no reason. She was eating and gaining and had no other problems. Terrible place. My next child will be born in minot like my son.
Best hospital ever! I went here for my prenatal care and also childbirth. I couldn't be happier. My OB was Dr.Brian Wilde and every step of the way he was caring, compassionate, and listened to my concerns. Even though I had a high risk pregnancy baby was fine, and Dr. Wilde kept me happy through the whole process. He delivered my baby and the nurses and staff took such good care of me. There birthing rooms are wonderful and relaxing, the doctor who gave me an epidural did a great job at making me feel at ease. They didn't hurry me out of the hospital, they let me take my time to heal, watched my baby in the baby room with other babies, fed me the most delicious hospital food I have ever had (Room Service for me and my husband was great). I can't imagine there's a better hospital to deliver a baby. Thank you Altru for caring and making my childbirth experience wonderful every step of the way and after. I highly recommend coming here for your care!
