I have been in the area off and on for more than 30 years. WDH has been my choice for patient care for my family and we live 40 minutes away. We have had questionable care from other regional hospitals and find that the 'for-profit' hospitals were the worst in care, attention to basic practices and job/procedure knowledge.

My care was excellent. Emergency room, Cancer Center, and on the hospital floor. They are very safety conscious.

I spent 11 days inpatient at WDH. From the ED to floor, everyone was professional and provide awesome care.

I had my son at the Birth Center, and plan to have my twins there as well. I have also had to go to the ER a multitude of times for various things, and a majority of the staff is professional, kind, and courteous. I also have appreciated that when they gave me medications, especially ones that make you drowsy, they waited a bit to check in on me to see if the medication had had any effect. They also didn't rush me out the door if i WAS drowsy, they let me rest in the hospital bed for a bit before sending me on my way. The only complaint I ever had was that they were too helpful at times, and honestly i'd rather be offered help when it isn't needed, than be ignored for hours like i have been at other hospitals.

On 8/27 it took me three hours to get to the hospital after the injury because of the situation I was in.. Probably should have called an ambulance but whatever, they would have taken me to the Portsmouth hospital, where I would most likely still be waiting right now.. I was in the room and receiving care within 20 minutes of arriving. When they realized the amount of pain I was in, there was no waiting around an hour, the doc was pulled in and morphine was approved. My total time there was under three hours, with top notch care. The Nurse knew exactly what was going on and worked with me on testing the pain instead of just prodding and tweaking like so many other places. The Doc had xrays in case any bone was pulled out with the shoulder tear and seriously I was just amazed by the attention given on a personal level. Thank you so much WD hospital, the staff did a fantastic job.
