We live in New Paltz and are consistently frustrated and disappointed with the Stop & Shop here. Almost every time we shop they are out of at least 3 essential items - most recent missing items included: lemons, 2% milk, nonfat yogurt, dill, feta cheese. Produce often goes bad within a day of bringing it home. They rarely have someone to bag the groceries. It isn't a big deal to bag yourself until you realize the cashier is just watching you or they take the next customer while you are still bagging. They need some competition.

NewPaltz Review - August 15, 2014

This place exemplifies how completely backwards and out of touch with reality the town of New Paltz is. It is the only viable "big box" grocery store in New Paltz because their produce isn't rotting on display, their meat isn't brown, and the isles are so narrow that you can't even fit a cart with a child down it. That said, after living all over the nation, this place is the most poorly managed super market I've ever been to. The staff seems to just wander aimlessly. The organization of the store is comical with Olives being located in some remote location that defies all logic, and a day in this place doesn't go by without you standing around wondering what exactly is wrong with humanity if we can't figure out how efficiently operate a simple grocery store. Some of the more annoying things about this store for a curious New Paltz resident to consider: 1. The Deli Counter: The deli counter is set up in such a way that you can place your order digitally using the self check out, and the management insists that the digital orders get priority. This means if you don't know this you can stand in line for twenty minutes waiting for 1/4 pound of turkey while all the rich yuppie house wires who know the system get their orders filled while they browse the hair dye, ice cream, and greek yogurt. 2. No one cares. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. There is not a soul standing on the floor of this store that cares at all about your needs. So don't think you can ask a question and get a reasonable response. This store has embraced the New Paltz Tax, meaning they know they have you by the genitalia and so they really could care less about your concerns. Customer service is on the bottom of their to do list. 3. No Rhyme Or Reason: The way they stock their shelves is so cryptic it must require a PHD to figure out because if you want something really simple, that is usually in say the "Canned" isle, you will end up spending a two weeks of failed attempts before you locate said item in an odd place. If you are really dedicated in finding said item I suggest that you consider what kinds of foods said item is usually featured alongside and start there however this may not be an immediate success. Sometimes they just stick things randomly on shelves. 4. Checkout. HA CHECKOUT! What is checkout? This store can't seem to figure out how to make the money they want to make. Rarely are there two people checking out customers, and if there are they usually have a line because EVERYONE with any sense trying to exit the store quickly is flocking to them. However be wanted as there will never be someone on the floor that can ID you for buying an Age Restricted Item. If you want to buy beer or cold medicine on your trip to this store expect to spend an extra fifteen minutes while they call the manager from his smoke break to slowly walk to your line and punch in his clearance code. The self checkouts are even worse. Did any of you ever notice how the person that can key in your age tends to always be younger then you, and the person working the line tends to always be older then you? There is something seriously wrong with this system. If I lived in ANY OTHER TOWN other then New Paltz NY I would never go to this store, but it is the only modern option we have so we're f@cked.

Not the best store, but I can say that the other reviews saying how bad this place is are probably more attributed to the customer's attitudes rather than other reasonable issues, such as not being able to find the olives. HAHAHAHA. No true issues here, Isles have decent spacing as well.
