Westar Urgent Care
Reviews
Run, do not walk way from this clinic. Having battled chronic Bronchitis (2-4 times per year) for the last 20 years has made me knowledgeable of my symptoms and what it takes to cure it. I saw Nurse Practioneer Joyce Perry and requested what I know works. She fought me on what at least 15 other Drs prescribe stating that her training called for a different approach. And hinted that the other Drs that I have seen over the years treated me incorrectly. At the end of a prolonged treatment (her demand/ that didn't work) she filled 2 of my 3 request. You can imagine my surprise when these prescriptions were filled and cost me over $100. Even the pharmacy was surprised as there are less expensive options out there. Needless to say, myself, nor my family will ever step foot into one of these awful practices again. In addition I will be telling EVERYONE; about the poor, poor, physicians staffed at this practice. I'd like to say this was my first bad experience here, but it is not.
I went to the desk. There wasn't a sign is sheet, I was handed papers to fill out and while I am filling those out four more people walk in and you are not put on a list till papers are handed in so if someone finishes before you even though you walked in first they will get seen first. An elderly woman had fallen and was bleeding from the nose and mouth and wanted her to fill out paperwork and sign stuff and she could barely stand, and the demeanor of the lady at the front desk was borderline rude and abrupt. The wait time was one hour in the waiting room alone, and I only knew that cause I heard the lady at the front desk tell someone else but not tell everyone, so apparently they dont have proper staff for a busy saturday which I would think would be one of the busiest days, so they should have more nurses and doctors present. They were very unorganized and sloppy with the order things were done. I am so disappointed with this and was very annoyed and when I left there was no effort to find out why and the front desk lady didnt even seem to care. This needs to be remedied.
I went to the urgent care for severe back spasms. My whole lower back was swollen and contracted to the point my body was completely crooked. I am an RN and I knew what I needed. A course of oral steroids and a muscle relaxer. Dr. Krusty (I mean Yeldell) sat down and launched into a 10 minute lecture on why he couldn't prescribe pain pills, which I never asked for. In fact I did not ask for medication at all, I asked for his help in an open manner. He went on to boast about his experience as an ER doctor, and even threw his staff under the bus for not asking me to take off my socks and shoes, which really didn't matter because he did not examine my feet. Alarmingly, he never even looked at my back! I proceeded to explian that I was not there for "pain pills", and he proceeded to talk over me leaving the room, saying that his staff would be back with the paperwork. I am 49 years old and I have had more than my share of health care needs. I have never been treated so poorly. This clown thinks he's a DEA agent. He's certainly not practicing medicine!
I have two points to make. First, my first experience was ok, the doctor was nice and diagnosed me and sent me on my way. Then the bill came. Look at your bill people! They upcharged me for the visit, meaning they charged a higher level of service than would be allowed, which is fraudulent. When I argued with them, they told me I was wrong, though I will take it further if needed because I bet if they were audited it would not be pretty! My second point is that I took my 1 year old there (totally should have gone across the street to the Nationwide Children's urgent care but everything in hindsight is clear). The Dr, named Dr Yeldell, was very uncomfortable with my daughter, which makes no parent feel good. Then when I asked to register my son, he said NO because they closed in 15 minutes, and he said he wanted to go home. Well, that is BAD service. As a concerned parent, who cares that he wants to go home? Some of us also work long hours and overtime, and he shoudl not have been so rude as to refuse to see my sick child. I will never go to this urgent care again, and have passed that on to my friends and family as well.
Updated review: after a poor experience, I contacted the parent company and was asked to return. I was seen by Dr Joe and the Nurse Supervisor and experienced exceptional customer service and quality care. These guys were great. If you have issues, speak up because there are some some really good folks here. Good luck!
