Safeway
Reviews
This is the best Safeway in Portland. The facility is clean, the staff are fantastic and cheerful. I do most of my shopping here. The only negative is that the meat department isn't very good but everything else here is good.
Normally, the cashiers are very nice. The supervisor was on duty today, however, and he is not as nice. Wouldn't use my store card because it came from a 'different' company. I've had it so long, and every other cashier uses it, I don't know where it came from. Not only would he not use it, but when he offered the Safeway card, he forced me into filling out the info on the tri-fold instead of just letting me do it later, which seem to be standard. He just made the whole scenario really uncomfortable and he wasn't interested in polite customer service as he was making sure he enforced the rules. The modern customer service option would have been to scan my original card, handed me the Safeway tri-fold and 'requesting' that I bring this in next time. That's how you keep your customers.
Restroom stinks and there are never any paper towels. Pastry at 6 am are from yesterday and an employee cautioned me not to buy any. Guess I'll go somewhere else.
This is our neighborhood grocery store and we are here 3 to 4 times a week. The staff members are consistent and courteous. They keep our favorite products in stock regularly (I hate it when what I can buy changes all of the time). Their produce selection is good and always fresh. Highly recommended if you are in the area. Also, they always have Veronica's Salsa (Picante, you wimps) in stock. You must try this salsa.
Shockingly expensive! A 12 pack of Heinekin for $18.99? I can buy the same thing at home for $11.99 with no bottle bill and no tax. If their prices go any higher they might interfere with air traffic in and out of PDX!
