Dr. Joseph P. Tobin, MD
Reviews
My name is Lisa Sweeney. I had stopped taking walks for fear of my knees giving out. I would hold onto the wall as I would walk down the hallway. It was bad and getting worse. Dr. Tobin gave me two new knees, 6 months apart from each knee. I've had them for two years now. It's so wonderful to wake up with no pain. To take long walks. I love telling my niece and nephew to hurry up because they are walking too slow! Dr. Tobin is a very caring doctor and surgeon. He has a professional manner with a fun and upbeat attitude. I will never be able to thank him enough for the gift of new knees. My husband and I like to walk 5k's and we now are talking about hiking the Grand Canyon. Do not hesitate if you need new joints. Hobble, crawl, creak your way to Dr. Tobin and get new ones! You will have a new lease on life.
My family and I have been patients of Dr Tobin for over 15 years. He has treated me, my late husband and two of my three children for a variety of problems ranging from back issues to knee problems to broken bones. Dr Tobin has the ability to diagnose the problem quickly and offer solutions that work, be they therapy, surgery or just simple rest. I have recommended Dr Tobin to many friends and relatives and will continue to do so. I am always confident that I will receive the best possible care from a very caring, compassionate physician.
I highly recommend Dr. Tobin. According to the operating room nurses he ties a knot better than anyone else. He has preformed four joint replacement procedures on me. Two knees, a shoulder and a hip. All parts are working well. I am 88 -still active and Happy as a lark! Dr. Tobin is a very good surgeon.
I'm shocked to read such a derrogoratory review from the patient of Dr. Tobin from 7 months ago! This could be no farther from the truth about him. Let me tell you my story. A little more that 2 years ago I was involved in a most serious golf cart accident which broke my left arm in 5 places. This accident first introduced me to Dr. Joseph Peter Tobin. Dr. Tobin has 17 years of medical experience and practices in Orthopaedic Surgery. He was on ER duty when I entered Hilton Head Memorial Hospital for treatment. I visited his office the following day for further evaluation. His entire staff showed professionalism, knowledge, and kindness to everyone who came through his office door. He always asks the patient how they came to know him and of the referral to him and the "why" of the visit from the patient's point of view so that he can hear their slant of their condition. Knowing my condition from the ER visit the previous day he knew of the surgery that would be involved. He spoke to both my husband and me about his recommendation and how to proceed. But re-ex-raying my arm to get another reading on how to proceed and the massive damage that was incurred caused him to re-evaluate my condition and to research and analyze the implant and type of surgery that I would undergo. In the hospital the day of the surgery he came and sat at my bedisde and talked me through the whole procedure to tell me what to expect before and after the procedure. My incisioin is about 4" long in my wrist and I can hardly tell that there is a scar. I have full mobility and range of motion thanks to his expertise. This golf cart event also triggered the following year a total left knee replacement from which I am still recovering. It took six months of various treatments to see if my knee would heal itself. Dr. Tobin does NOT jump to the knife immediately. All options are tried first with surgery as the last resort. His staff had all bases covered for me in ordering the appropriate appliances that I would need at home for recovery. No stone was left unturned. Dr. Tobin visited me frequently in the hospital and called my home to see how my follow-up care was coming along. It has now been 3 weeks since my surgery and I walk freely without a limp, cane, or walker--I am still 5'2" that was my main concern and question to Dr. Tobin--will I still be as tall as I was or shorter! I can ride a bicycle now and even wear my fabulous high heels--and I am PAIN FREE! I should be back on the golf course in about another month--Yea!! My incision is healing nicely and my physical therapy is coming along at record speed. I trusted Dr. Tobin completely after I saw how beautifully my wrist surgery turned out. His compassion, knowledge, bedside manner, and professionalism I have not found in others and I cannot thank him and his staff enough for the care and courtesy that they have extended to me.
This so called "doctor" is anything but!!! He is rude, unprofessional and condescending! And those are the nice adjective I can find to describe him. I went to see him after being in the emergency room the night before with a work related injury that resulted in a fractured patella. The very first thing he said to me was, "how did you get my number and what are you doing here." In utter shock, I told him my situation. He came over to the examine table and told me to lay down. I did as he commanded. He then removed my brace, roughly, and began to manipulate my leg without one ounce of gentleness or respect for the fact that I was in a severe amount of pain. He then made some documentation in his recorder, dropped my chart on the exam table and left the room. Not knowing what to do next, I got up, took my chart to the front only to find out he left me a prescription for an anti inflammatory rx and nothing for pain. I told the receptionist she could keep the prescription and that I would not be back. I am still in complete shock that a person would treat another in that manner for any reason. If you are considering going to an orthopedic doctor, may I suggest you RUN, not walk away for anything Dr. Tobin is involved in!!!
