I have medical coverage with BCBS. They did some type of upgrade to match the AHCA over theThanksgiving weekend that left many insured individuals showing that they did not have insurance coverage. Thanksgiving day I broke my hand. The emergency clinic patched me up with a splint and said see my orthapedic doc. Of course all are closed over the weekend, so I called Monday for an appointment today. I have used them before so they had my insurance info. They did call me Monday afternoon to tell me that BCBS said I had no coverage which was surprising to me, so I called BC - waited over 30 min before I had to hang up, called again Tuesday morning at 8AM, had to leave at 8:30 to make Drs appointment. Arrived at Doctor not worried about having resolved the issue because I had a $3500 deductable and knew I would be paying the bill anyway. But when I was told that because I did not have insurance I wouild have to pay $1,000.00....that is not a typo - yes $1,000 FOR THE OFFICE VISIT BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE INSURANCE, that is completely unreasonable. And that money would not even apply to surgery or anything else I might need to have. I asked what they would be doing for $1,000 and she could not answer, I mean does that include anything other than 5 minutes of the Doctors time, if he looks at it and says there is nothing he can do, do I get some of that back? No, just $1,000 for the 5 minute visit.
