Harmons - Draper
Reviews
I purchased the last half-dozen apple fritters from Harmons bakery on the morning of Sept. 9. I was very disappointed to find they were overcooked, rubbery, tasteless and with little to NO apple bits inside! These were also the smallest apple fritters I've ever seen not to mention the most expensive. I'm used to buying fritters 3 times that size at Bowman's Market in Kaysville or Dick's Market in Centerville for half the price. Because Harmons fritters were so little, I headed over to the Draper Walmart to get more and bought another half-dozen that were in a box. I found Walmart's fritters to be fresh, soft, fluffy, and TASTY. They also had apples inside! While Walmart's fritters were the same size as Harmons, they were half the price and MUCH higher quality. I wouldn't be so upset if I got what I paid for at Harmons, but I paid a premium price for the smallest, worst-tasting apple fritters I've ever eaten. Yes, I ate two of them to make sure I the first one wasn't a fluke. I was further annoyed that there were at least half-dozen 'bakers' wearing fancy baker hats and white outfits milling around the deli and bakery area. I'm convinced that these bakers are really fakers.
I wish I made more money. I'd do all my grocery shopping here. I love Harmon's. Their bakery and meat departments are wonderful. The chicken fajita kits you can buy are FABULOUS. Produce is wonderful.
Took my son with me and they gave him a full out tour of the cheese department (which is great). The lady told him stories of how they were made and how old they are. He was fascinated! Our favorite gourmet cupcakes, and cookies are there. For every school party we take Harmon's cookies (since we can't take homemade treats) and my son is a big hit. :) Everybody there is very friendly and service is amazing!
Wont accept returns for fresh (non-sealed) items. No grocery store I've been to does this, other than Harmons. After getting busted by the health dept. for reselling a returned turky, they decide to refuse returns of everything that is not factory sealed. Talk about poor service. Even the Walmarts and other budget stores dont have such a restrictive return policy. Also, when you try to exchange rotten produce you've bought from them, they won't do it without a receipt, then when you bring in the receipt, they deny that it's even their produce at all, while the store clerks refuse to accept responsibility. While they do have some more interesting food items there, and pretty good bakery bread, it is very pricey relatively, even for basic items.
Overpriced but their produce is unbeatable. Employees are all very friendly.
