Nova Medical & Urgent Care Center

My overall experience coming here has been extremely dis-satisfactory. I needed a dermatologist and I had just gotten new health insurance. The closest place I could find that accepted the insurance was this office in Ashburn, VA (a 50 minute drive from me). My first visit, I explained to the derma-nurse that I was there today to get checked for skin cancer. Her response - "Why? You're young, you don't need to do that." I'm 28, and a good friend of mine was, in fact, just diagnosed with melanoma at age 25 - hence, the reason for my visit. My point is, that's no way to address a patient's concern. Either way, I get checked, and on my way out I make my appointment to have one mole removed. A few weeks later as the surgical appointment nears, I notice they haven't called to confirm. I call them - they have absolutely no record of my appointment, and they proceed to make a new one. A few days later, they call again. Seems this time they've scheduled for a day that the doctor won't even be there, so we reschedule, again. That appointment sticks. I have the mole removed, and I'm scheduled to come back in two weeks to have the stitches out. A few days later, I'm called again because, AGAIN, the receptionist scheduled me for the wrong day. We reschedule. Now for the worst appointment. I arrive 15 minutes early the day of the stitches removal. 45 minutes later, I still haven't been called back. I approached the front desk and asked the receptionist what was taking so long for such a short procedure. She replies that she doesn't know, but will tell someone that I have been waiting for a long time. About 10 minutes later a nurse comes and takes me back. She asks what I need done. I tell her to have my stitches out. She replies that she needs to go find someone to do it. (She is obviously flustered by this situation). She comes back and explains that all of the derma-nurses are gone so she will do it. She finishes in 5 minutes, but in the meantime, I told her that I had been told the lab results would be back by this time. She told me to go to the front desk and ask for triage. I spoke to a triage nurse over the phone at the front desk, and she said she would come up and give me my results. Another 10-15 minutes later, no one had come to talk to me. I approached reception again to ask what was the hold up now. She called them and about 5 minutes after that, finally a nurse comes up and says that she can't see my results, but she paged my doctor and that I should just go home and she would call me by the end of the day. She gave me her extension in case I wanted to call her. The day passes, I never hear a word. I call that nurse's extension the next day and leave a message that I'd still like to know my results. It's been 2 business days and I haven't heard a word. I called today and left another message stating I'd like my results. The voicemail says they return all messages by the close of business. Well surprise, surprise, I still haven't heard a word and they're closed. I left my feedback with their feedback hotline on the day of the stitches removal, but the person on the other end just apologized and said she'd try to get to the bottom of it. Obviously, I still haven't heard anything from that either. The ONLY reason I'm giving this office two stars instead of zero, is because I really liked my doctor, Dawna Rogers. Needless to say, once I get my results, I will never be returning here.
I have been a patient here for almost 10 years and they used to be very good. Now, I only try to go there if there is no where else to go! The last time I had to take my daughter there for strep throat, they prescribed the wrong amount of medication! I have worked in the medical industry for 15 years, and knew enough to know that they had not dosed her correctly. I actually called my pediatrician the next morning, and when she finally stopped laughing at the dose, she told me that not only was it wrong, but the dose wouldn't have even treated a newborn (my daughter was 6 at the time). STAY AWAY!!! I'm looking for a new group of doctors that actually knows what they are doing, and actually CARES about treating their patients!
I went to nova urgent care having difficulty breathing , I thought I was congested from allergies. The nurses got me in immediately and I was seen by Dr.Dondlinger , I had never met him before but he was nice and extremely through, I don't think any doctor has ever spent as much time with me before. My vital signs appeared to be ok but he was not satisfied, he ran a ekg and after comparing it to a previous one from six months earlier , he went and found a cardiologist to consult with. Together they recommended I go immediately to the emergency room for a cat scan of my chest.I did and was emitted to the intensive care unit with a "massive pulmonary embolism".I believe his professionalism and caring attitude may have saved my life.
I have mixed feelings. I go to the one in Gainesville. I have a very good doctor, but she is only there twice a week. Now I am dealing with debilitating pain, and thanks to the staff screwing up my referral, I cannot see an orthopedic doc until I get back from a trip. When I went to their urgent care to see if I could talk to someone about it, they refused and told me to make an appointment with my doc. Of course, to see her before I leave, I have to drive at least an hour round trip and hope that she will help me. I am now trying to figure out how to deal with pain so intense it leaves me in bed-while on a trip that involves four planes and a 6 hour round trip car ride. This would not have happened if the on call folks today would at least taken time to see me and they knew how to work the system.
Saw their nutritionist. Her behavior was appalling at best. For a nutritionist, she went against nutrition knowledge. She didn't answer my questions, refused to take my comments/allergies into account, and truly seemed to be treating me like just a number. The way she gave me info, it seemed like she'd given this exact same info many times before, was bored by it, and would give it many more times, all without taking the patient's medical needs into account. I'm finding a different doctor and nutritionist.
