When I took my one small bag of groceries (that cost $30) to checkout, my choice was either wait behind someone with an overflowing cart or self-checkout b/c they don't even bother to open an Express Lane anymore. Now you get all of the expense of Whole Foods, just without the quality products, delicious samples or customer service. This Safeway provides Winco service at Central Market prices! Won't return.

Totally agree about the bakery. I couldn't believe some of the pastries my boyfriend was bringing home from the Safeway Bakery, great quality and even greater fresh bread! Love that they open at 5 AM, since I live so close I can get there quick as soon as they open, and be the first to get my hands on the fresh donuts they put out early in the morning! Always a lovely treat and quite yummy paired with some Starbucks coffee (also available in store). Always clean, never too busy, and nice people that work here too!

The bakery lady (sorry don't recall name) is a fantastic individual, she is happy, friendly and ready to answer questions. Can t say enough about her.

Bakery is the BEST! Warm bread, and staff whose love to bake shows. Usually a fresh artisan loaf is available for sampling. Way above Safeway's average bakery experience.
