This was a dreadful experience. Upon walking in the door, you experience the office staff who were less than professional (dress and otherwise). Then when you get into the exam room, you are confronted by woman who thinks she has something to prove. She talked to me like a child, discredited everything my referring physician had told me and acted like there was nothing worng with me. I have never experienced such poor bedside manor before. I prefer a doctor who listens to what their patients have to say, can understand that their patients may be scared because they don't know what is worng with them and discuss the issues at hand with them instead of rolling all over them. If you have a real issue, go to a real doctor. If you have self esteem issues and need cosmetic work done, she's your doc in a box.
The office staff are deplorable - talking on the phones to their boyfriends, while we wait for their private conversations to end - they don't value their customers at all. The only professional member of this circus is the esthetician who is wonderful and caring - she is the only reason this place stays in business.
I went to Dr. Fortson for acne on my back. I’d tried different dermatologists and most treatments out there, so she went straight to a generic version of Accutane. I asked her about all the horrible things I’d read about Accutane (which had gone under due to lawsuits), and she assured me they were unfounded. Due to a mix-up with the pharmacy’s instructions, I took half the dosage she recommended for the first month. When she found out, she scolded me like a child. Even her staff apologized for her behavior. Week 5 I took the full dosage and got horrible headaches. Week 6 I got terrible back pain, and called Dr. Fortson. An assistant told me that Accutane doesn’t cause such pain (many Internet sources say that it does) and recommended that I continue the drug. On week 7, my bowels got so inflamed that I couldn’t defecate. All that came out of me was blood, and lots of it. I had to wait over the weekend to call Dr. Fortson. On Monday I talked to an assistant, who said she would call me back. I was called back on Tuesday, and told… that she would call me back. At this point I hadn’t eaten in days, as my bowels were packed full and nothing was moving. Tuesday afternoon, I got a call from the assistant, who said to go to a First Care or similar “Doc-in-the-Box”. I’d had enough of Dr. Fortson’s advice (not that she was actually speaking to me, despite the severity of my symptoms), and I called a gastroenterologist. My new doctor spoke me to himself, moved his schedule around, and got me in fast. It turns out I now have Crohn’s disease, which Dr. Fortson assured me Accutane doesn’t cause, despite everything I’ve read to the contrary. I’m mad at myself for trusting Dr. Fortson, but I’m mostly just mad at her for prescribing me a horrible drug and making no effort to help me as it tore apart my body.
I am embarrassed to say that I have been seeing this Doctor for over ten years. Every time I have had an appointment it has been one thing or another. Rude staff, late appointment, accounting mix up etc. It wasn't until this year that I started to see Dr. Fortson more then once a year. Then I realized this isn't just my bad luck this office and this staff are horrible. Dr. Fortson is expensive and you feel like you are dealing with a car salesman. After being pushed to buy botox, jevederm and latisse all on the same visit I left disgusted. It's all about money not the patient. I wouldn't recommend this Dr. to anyone.
