South Tampa Dentists - Ed Francisco DDS

Misquoted out of pocket, then sent me an invoice for an additional cost stating my insurance had changed. It hadn't. Then fillings failed in 6 month. In spring 2014, I went in for a routine dentist appointment; cleaning and exam. Dr.Francisco "found" 9 cavities that needed to be filled. He recommended a plan, and I requested pricing from the billing manager Kourtney. Kourtney provided me with, per my request, a detailed work order of what my insurance would cover and what my out of pocket cost would be based on sections of my mouth all by line item by tooth; the total was $419.80 out of pocket cost for all work. This was all provided to me prior to the work was performed. Since I have never had work done on my teeth apart from wisdom teeth removal, I was sure to get a second opinion. The second dentist did recommend fillings, but provided me a quote with substantially higher prices. I noted the price difference had to do with the difference in resin verses metal fillings. When I made the appointment with Francisco's office to have the work done, Kourtney assured me that the pricing was the same for both based on my insurance and that the quote she provided me originally still stood for the work to be done ($419.80). After multiple visits to put the fillings in all parts of my mouths (they were broken up over a few visits so that I may be able to chew on different sides of my mouth while other parts healed), I received a new bill in the mail for an additional $424.20 on top of the $419.80. On this invoice, Kourtney included a hand written note stating "Valerie - your insurance downgraded your fillings to silver. The balance below is yours. Please call me if you need payment arrangements. Sorry :( - Kourtney" Given that I was never notified by my insurance that my benefits had changed, I called to be sure. When I called, I discovered that I had never been downgraded, nothing had changed, but in fact Kourtney must have initially made a billing error several months earlier when she quoted me. Given that the work had already been done, I had no opportunity to shop for another quote for an amount I could more easily afford as a student. Additionally, I had to go back several times because the work was done sloppily and one of the fillings had to be redone. Tooth number 5 was redone by Dr.Francisco. Additionally, he reshaped the teeth several times to make them fit better and closer to my original teeth. I was disappointed with the results still after multiple visits because I could not chew on the left side of my mouth without pain, fillings were chipping, and there was too much space between teeth. Unfortunately, I could not afford to see a dentist again until the 6 month time period between visits had been satisfied by my insurance requirements. Given that I had lost faith in Francisco's work, I searched for another dentist. I eventually found one who came highly recommended to me. The new, reputable dentist examined my teeth, and was dismayed at the work. He has a more conservative view, and believed I didn't need half the fillings I was given. As I suspected, several fillings had chipped, and two were clearly failing. We set an appointment for a cleaning and for the two fillings to be redone. This new dentist was shocked to hear the work had been done just 6 months earlier. His explanation to the resulting failing fillings were either due to poor technique or poor quality materials used to create the fillings. This leads me to believe that I have been over charged at the very least. Unfortunately, I had to pay out of pocket entirely for these two fillings that had to be redone on teeth 19 and 5. This was due to my insurance company's policy that fillings should not be replaced within the first year. While I understand this is to prevent fraudulent activities toward the insurance company, I was left with a hefty bill for two teeth that should not be anywhere near the state they are in. I went from having had shockingly minimal work ever done to what seems to me to be someone taking advantage of me and my insurance company.
Very good attention with Doctor Ed and his staff, very patient, no rush in his dental procedure. He help me to remain calm during the two hour dental treatment. I was satisfy with my dental work, the truth is that i finally found a good dentist. My dental cleaning was the best! The cost for the dental work are just right and I don't think is expensive. I will recommended Doctor Ed to any person that I know, because good dentist are hard to find.
Very nice staff. The hygenist was very helpful in suggesting I use Sensodyne toothpaste, rather than have the pricey procedure Dr. Francisco suggested. The second time I went I declined x-rays because I've never had a cavity (48 years old) and do not believe it is healthy to have so many x-rays. Well, lo and behold, all of a sudden they tell me I have a cavity. I do not believe them and left to get a second opinion. A few years later, I've now had full x-rays, AND NO CAVITIES. People need to realize that not only are retailers trying to rip you off, but now health care providers are doing the same thing. It is sad commentary on humanity.
I had a fantastic experience. The only problem was that I was cold while waiting in the lobby, but the nurses turned up the air. The staff is so nice and friendly.
Dr. Francisco is skillful, pleasant, and professional in every aspect of dentistry. Excellent technique and results with minimal pain. The best by every measure.
