Jewel

One of my neighbors on my block works here, which is one of the main reason we go here. The staff is friendly and accommodating and of course we always have a good experience from a customer service standpoint. The selection is good and usually find something to spend your money on. Dont go in here hungry.
Love this store they have everything and the people there are so nice. I was picking out a french bread and a man behind the bakery counter gave me a fresh hot right out of the oven loaf. It was delicious!
First place I found that was open when I got into town. It worked for us. Been there a couple times now.
Considering there's a Trader Joe's across the street and a Whole Foods and a Mariano's approximately 2 blocks away, I'm surprised this Jewel is still in business. Not only is this location filthy, but they are consistently out of staples. I tend to come here only for the deli items I can't get at Trader Joe's, but be prepared to wait 15 minutes even though there isn't a line and there are 6 people behind the counter. They also need to beef up security because there are some interesting characters here sometimes -- I've had to confront two people to request they leave me alone while shopping. It's too bad because in my past two apartments, Jewel has been my primary shopping location, but I just can't do it here.
There were 3 realistic grocery options by my place (unless you counted Peapod for some overpriced yet convenient delivery in the winter.) Jewel's prices tended to be the best of the three and they had all of the basic essentials that you would need. They have a decent selection of food and their entire second floor is dedicated to the liquor selection. That all is a plus. The downside? I don't think I ever got through one of the checkout lines in under ten minutes (that's low-balling it) unless you went through the self checkout. Which, when I went to the grocery store I was stocking up so that usually wasn't what I was in the mood for. It's a decent grocery store (the ones in the suburbs and even across the city seem to be managed better) and would be better if they could figure out a better checkout system in the store. Honestly even though it was probably my least favorite of the three in the area it was the closest so the majority of the time I inevitably found myself here.
