Went to the Harrisburg location for a routine cleaning/check up. For starters, I was at the office for 2 1/2 hours just for this appointment. Office is overcrowded, staff is overwhelmed, and their policies are frankly NOT comforting to parents. They did not let me in the room with my 6 year old even when I expressed that I was uncomfortable with that. I respected their rules, but stood in the hall and watched. Seemed that may have irritated them a bit, but I didn't care--I'm a mom. The actual dentist pops in for about 5 minutes and at the end of the visit does not even consult with me. The hygienist reported to me a finding of 8 cavities and 1 decayed tooth? SERIOUSLY? This is a kid who brushes teeth morning and night, doesn't drink soda or eat much candy. In addition my child NEVER complains of pain or sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet. I asked if I could be in the room with my child when the work is done and they said, "No it's too stimulating." They also ask that you sign authorization to use giggle gas if necessary--Ontop of not letting me in the room-- I DON'T THINK SO! Mommy & Daddy's instinct said to get a 2nd opinion and SO GLAD we did-- NO CAVITIES! In the process of getting a second opinion, I called a week in advance to have them release my child's x-rays. They said they would have them ready I just had to come sign for them. I called the day before I was going to pick them up to notify them I would be coming down. Again, they said they would be ready--Sure enough they did not have them ready and said it could take 30 days, but that's not what I was told during 2 phone conversations. Both Lancaster & Harrisburg offices have the same policies and the same poor service.
Because we could not get in with our regular dentist in time, we went to this Lancaster office (for the first time) for my six year old daughter and had an appointment with Dr. Robyn Ivker. The hygienist was wonderful, but it stops there. We were told that she had three cavities and needed to be filled. I could not believe it as we were so careful, but scheduled and appointment anyway. The kids are taken in a separate room without their parents for this, and my daughter did not want to go. On the form we filled out, I let them know of the Domestic Violence issues we had been through, and I needed to be with her. Dr. Robyn reluctantly agreed, with a serious attitude, I might add. I guess her degree in Psychology does not mean much! To make a long story short, we ended up leaving after one tooth was filled as my daughter was crying so much and she was not even given the time to catch her breath and calm down. I was told I had to leave the room, which made my daughter become hysterical. Dr. Robin came out and told me that I needed to find another dentist and I agreed. Thankfully I did because in the second opinion, she did not have any cavities! My daughter gets checked every six months and it has been over a year and she still has NO cavities. To me they are over diagnosing to get insurance money. If you have any doubt, please get a second opinion. There are many other good pediatric dentists in the Lancaster area.
Completely satisfied and will always see Dr. Rheault and his staff. I can't believe how long it took me to see the dentist when Dental Health Associates was right in my backyard!
