Texas Orthopedic & Sports Medicine
Reviews
Had Dr. Leahy for spinal surgery. The surgery went well, and recovery is going pretty well so far. But this review isn't about him. It's about everything else. The staff seems friendly, but there's something wrong at this place. Both times I came I wasn't called back until at least two hours after my scheduled appointment time, which I made sure to show up early to. The people I talked to in the lobby had similar complaints. I don't know if they have a poor system or if they over-book or what. But it doesn't work. Not only that, but I have called and left messages about 8 times in the last month to get assistance with communication with my insurance company. I received a total of 1 call back in that time. I don't have a problem with the Doctor, but something needs to change with the rest.
Absolutely terrible. I was referred to these guys by the ER I visited after suffering a broken ankle in a motorcycle crash. I called the next day to make the appointment and they set me up for 5 days after the crash and initial visit to the ER. I pre-filled and printed all of the documents that they requested so that I could get in faster. I showed up on time, documents in-hand, checked in with my pre-filled documents and waited.....for nearly an hour. They sure have a nice waiting room, but I later learned how they pay for it. The whole time we're waiting (there was about 10 other people waiting as well), we can hear the staff behind the glass laughing, horse-playing, and pretty much not giving a crap about the speed of their work. So, after being called into the back, I crutch my way through a 100-yard maze of hallways and get led into a room, sit down, then almost immediately told that I'm in the wrong room and need to go to the "cast room". I crutch over to the cast room and wait another 30 minutes, all the while listening to more staff walking around talking to each other and carrying on as though I'm an oblivious cow waiting for the slaughter. The doctor's PA comes in and talks to me, telling me a lot of medical jargon which to any normal person would have just sounded like a chicken falling down the stairs. I, however, had 5 days of time to research my condition and review my X-rays and could understand his jibberish. 15 minutes later, the doctor arrives. The doctor says he's look at my X-rays that were taken at the ER and that, although my ankle is broken, I am good with a walking boot. He spends a total of about one minute talking to me and then leaves. No new X-rays, no tests, not even a renewal on my pain meds. I hate taking pain medication, refuse to do so on most occasions. I ate Ibuprofen for one day after each of my root canals, no other pain meds needed. But for this, I wanted a refill of my non-narcotic pain med. Probably my fault for not asking for it, but I don't think I should have to remind the doc that my ankle might hurt. Then the real clusterf*** begins. They want to put me in a moon boot and can't get authorization from my insurance company. I have no idea, or had no idea at the time, why the insurance company wouldn't authorize the moon boot, but regardless, I had to pay out of pocket for it. $321.00 They had already spent 20 minutes trying to get authorization for it, so I finally just told them I'd pay it out of pocket. Big mistake. I should have gone to Amazon or Google or something first. I pay for the boot, a burger flipper wearing a nurse's outfit comes in to show me how to put on a velcro boot. Once home, I look up the boot online and discover that the MOST EXPENSIVE place I could buy the boot was selling them for $150 but they are as cheap as $35. No wonder my insurance wouldn't authorize it. So, two hours of listening to workers not care about anybody in the place, one minute of seeing a doctor, being squawked at by a PA, and a $321 moon boot later and I still have no idea how much they're going to bill my insurance company for. AND, they wanted to charge me $45 to fill out my FMLA paperwork. They're already filling out a ton of paperwork anyway, they need extra money to have a non-doctor fill out paperwork???? Don't do it, folks. This place is here for one thing...taking money out of the pocket of people who don't know any better. I'm sad to say, I was one of those people. Hope this review helps someone avoid the nonsense of this place.
Dr.Fahl does wonderful work, as did the Woodlands Lakeside Hospital. The staff at Teaxs Orthepedic is a different story. Prepare to wait for over an hour whenever you schedule an appointment. Don't expect to get a warm body on the phone when you call the office either. I could've been dying from some allergic reaction in an emergency room somewhere and they would've had no way of finding out what meds I was on. The poorly trained staff at TOSM is solely responsible for my seeking treatment elsewhere. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
