I had laser eye surgery at YELC in 2005. Over the last 8 years since recovering from surgery, I have had near daily dry eye in only one eye. The surgeons at YELC led me to believe it was my fault. Looking back, I'm not so sure: I had a relatively weak prescription for nearsightedness before surgery and no complications, no previous dry-eye, so surgery was expected to be routine. I was excited about my upcoming winter off work where I was going to spend a few months around vancouver and whistler skiing, a fact that found its way into a lot of my conversations at the time. In my candidacy interview, they indicated no conflicts between my plans, and the surgery. I was in a position that I could afford to pay more to have Dr. Rootman perform the surgery rather than save money on a surgeon with less experience. I understood that regardless, there are no guarantees of perfection by choosing the most experienced person. During surgery, Dr. Rootman cut the flap on one eye far enough (too far I presume) so that it was no longer connected to my eye at all. The replacement of this flap took Dr. Rootman many attempts, of lifting and attempting to re-seat it. In comparison, the other eye flap remained connected at the top, and was replaced in a fraction of the time. It was pretty obvious that the surgery in one of my eyes went smoother than the other. A friend who was to drive me home was interested in seeing the procedure, so was watching from another room, and corroborates my recollection. Recovery went well over the coming weeks, and my vision was great. I went to the pre-scheduled follow-up appointments at YELC over the next year. During that year I spent a lot of time in Vancouver and Whistler skiing. It was clear to me that the same eye that required extra attention during surgery was frequently irritated. YELC gave me drops to mitigate the dryness, which I used. In the months after my final pre-scheduled follow-up appointment, the dryness in that one eye didn't go away. I returned to them to have this fixed. Their assessment of my case was to attribute my dry eye to my time spent on the west coast skiing! (Never mind it's known as the wet coast for good reason, it's far drier in Toronto, especially in winter) Back then, as it does now, it sounded to me like a cop-out. An excuse. Complete denial of his possible contribution to my current condition. No help. I'm writing this now after yet another day of closing my eye and rolling it around with an eye drop, as I will probably have to do every day from now on. I'm writing this to illustrate the conflict of interest that lies between a surgeon performing the surgery for profit, while also providing post-surgical care, as part of the initial lump sum. Potential clients need to know this, and hold their opthamologist responsible for treatment, rather than I did, letting them wash their hands of any responsibility due to my gullibility and lack of knowledge at the time. I don't fault Dr. Rootman for his slip that resulted in my flap coming off. I bet he is a very talented surgeon, and thankfully, that flap is still on my eye. My beef is that I believe that Dr. Rootman and YELC completely failed me in their post-surgery care to help. I would suggest to anyone having surgery anywhere that "includes post-surgery appointments", that this isn't to save the patient money - it's to save the clinic money. Instead, regularly see an independant opthamologist for a second opinion throughout your post-surgery care! Summary: Based on their quick dismissal of my condition, and refusal to continue providing post-surgical care, I would NOT recommend anyone go there for eye surgery.
Did my first laser-hair treatment... so far so good in terms of results. Sometimes they are difficult to get a hold of over the phone...so 4/5.
I can't believe they are still in business!!!! The staff is very nice if you don't have anything to ask or to say to them. When I was there the receptionist was on the phone with her friend, and of course, don't you even think she asked her to wait. I stood there for over 15 mnts hearing their plans for the weekend!!!!! REALLY!!!!! after I interrupted her she told her friend: "wait I have someone here starring at me". After all this I asked to speak to the cosmetic manager, who seems to de awol every time someone has anything to say. Not only the excuses are: she is helping an other costumer, or she is not in her office at the moment (which seems to be the best excuse for the past 15 days that I have been calling her at different times) or she is on the phone, etc. I have left a couple of msgs and nothing!!! It is really frustrating to deal with this people, they are unprofessional in every way!! I will never recommend this place to anyone!!! and as soon as I can actually speak to someone in that place who cares, i will get my money back and never never come back!!!!!!
i really enjoyed my experience here for laser hair removal. the staff were super friendly and my technician was great too. she made sure i got the best treatment possible each time! would definitely recommend!
Very disappointed and frusturated with this place. Originally came upon this center through Groupon, and then decided to return since the service and results were satisfactory (laser hair removal). After purchasing sessions through their VIP program and a promotion that they were having, everything has been going downhill!! For my first session I was several minutes late. Now I do understand that this center must run under a tight schedule, so I was okay with this when I was forced to cancel my appointment when I arrived would have to return on another day. The next time I returned, there was no one at the front desk and I was forced to wait several minutes. Since this time it was not my fault, I did not expect for them to turn me away and give me no other option but to book another appointment since there would "not be enough time to finish my session". Fine. Now for my third visit, I was able to make it ON TIME and wanted to start the sessions, but now they were saying that there was another problem and could not treat me. After more time was wasted (and them making me sign some waivers), they try to use the "not enough time" excuse again. At this point I was FED UP and got into a heated argument with them that I was not going to put up with another one of their ridiculous reasons for having me to come back. I still have not had any sessions done yet, as it is nearly impossible to find an available time. They also take their sweet time in getting back to you if you leave a message, and rarely pick up the phone when you call-in to make an appointment. The staff are also rude and difficult to deal with, and I am not pleased with their service and attitude. They should not be treating customers this way, and I am disgusted that such a highly advertised center would operate this way. I DO NOT believe that this place is honest and they are trying to make it as difficult as possible for me to put the sessions that I have paid for to use! I will NEVER RETURN to this place after I am done my laser hair treatment, and I hope others will not have to deal with I have so far! PLEASE BEWARE!!!
