Ahern's Massage Therapy School
Reviews
Thomas Ahern possesses great knowledge of many different modalities of massage therapy; from Shiatsu to triggerpoint therapy to hot stone massage to traditional chinese medicine to myofascial release to ortho`anatomy to such esoteric arts as cupping, gua-sha and reiki. He is able to teach his students in a way which facilitates fast comprehension through immersion and which makes them truly want to and enjoy learning due to his compassion and ease of communication. I attended his class in 2005 and 2006 and was invited to stay and help work at the school for a year even assisting in teaching a few of the classes. This was one of the best experiences of of my life. Thomas allows any student who has completed the course to come back FREE OF CHARGE any time to retake courses and brush up on their knowledge... this is amazing! Did I mention that the school is in beautiful rolling hills surrounded by oak trees and gardens in some of the most beautiful countryside on the planet? That it is outside of an amazing little mountain town called Mariposa which has some great restaraunts and shops and a local/organic market/deli and which is just a short, beautiful drive( along the gorgeous Merced river) from Yosemite Park, which you travel to twice during the course of study? That Thomas's property its self with its fruit trees and redwoods and school and yurt and cabins (all of which he built himself with some small help from friends and students) is absolutely awesome and filled with good vibes and awesomeness? And that the course is one of the fastest, yet most effective ways, to become knowledgable and certified in the art of Massage Therapy? well i did now. You should go to Ahern's Massage Therapy School.
I enrolled at Ahern's Massage Therapy School primarily because it was an accelerated, get 'er done course. but so much more than massage basics were covered--healing modalities and concepts I'd never even heard of much less expected. Thomas teaches the difference between simply learning to massage and learning to massage with intent, compassion, presence--and Reiki. Believe me, there is a huge difference between the two approaches. The massage routine Thomas teaches will serve you well. It is super unique and promises to set you apart from other therapists. Honestly it's that good! I learned, changed and grew as a person during my time at this school...not what I went there to do, but an added bonus. Definitely a positive experience for me.
Small classes, very personal attention from the teacher. This is not just a massage school but a place where healing experiences happen. Every class I have been through it seems like myself or another student has a life-changing(for the dramatically better) experience. I am not exaggerating, it is astounding. Each student is welcome to return and retake any class they have taken before- for free! This is great for brush up on some of the modalities I don't use very often, and to help newer students with feedback, since I have been through the whole process of 600+ hours training and CA certification.Dr. Ahern provides a truly unique and amazing learning experience.
