MedSpring Urgent Care - Cedar Park
Reviews
I took a bad fall on Saturday. I went to MedSpring in Cedar Park where I was treated very well when in the clinic. The staff and physician went out of their way to alleviate my pain as much as possible. The negatives: I feel I waited in the room for a long time but to be fair, I was in a lot of pain and it probably seemed longer than it really was. They took x-rays and I was told I would receive a call within 24 hours of my visit to get a final report from a radiologist. That call never came. I'm dissappointed. I am now going to follow up with my PCP who will probably want to get another x-ray. Next time I'll try someplace else.
I rated them very well using the in-house survey--without realizing that the experience wasn't yet complete. While there I found out that they do not keep treatment on hand for strep throat. We did not have the option of an antibiotic shot that delivers faster healing. I also didn't feel I had any say when I asked the doctor about different (stronger) antibiotics. Lastly, I requested my prescription be sent to a particular location (not the usual one on file). Two hours later at the requested pharmacy there was no record of the prescription! I called MedSpring and was told that it was sent to the pharmacy on file instead. They offered to call it in at the requested place, but I had to weigh which would take longer since my kiddo (the patient) was waiting in the car. They were a very nice staff, but needed to be more meticulous in this case. Also, I don't think I'll fill out the survey on the spot in the future since that isn't the complete experience.
I drove my husband in to the 1431/183 location because he had sudden onset of joint pain, chills & fever. He couldn't hardly walk to the car by himself. After a 2 hour wait at the clinic, he was finally given a throat & nose swab to rule out the flu. He was wheezing and Dr. Armen asked if he ever had lung problems (maybe COPD? We don't know...) No x-ray was offered. We were there a total of THREE HOURS and found out he had an ear infection. He didn't know that - today I'm left wondering - did this infection travel to his joints? The Dr. didn't suppose anything except told me to take him to the ER if he wasn't better by Wednesday. Why did I come to MedSprings then? I'll never go back. I asked for a blanket for his extreme chills and I was told "somebody took them all". I asked for some kind of relief, please, since my husband was nearly delirious with pain and chills. We were given three paper prescriptions: antibiotics, steroids, and pain meds but I asked for a shot to give him relief NOW. I was told NO and was helped to the car to have my sick husband have to wait to have the prescriptions filled and take pills before he could get relief. We were not happy but the technician pushed a paper review into my hand and I was instructed to fill it out. I didn't. No wonder all their reviews are so good from the MedSprings site since just the best, most well patients have the capacity to fill one out!!
I went in with flu like symptoms but an x-ray (that I never saw) showed possibly the beginnings of pneumonia. This was my second visit and the fourth day of my illness so I thought it was possible and was happy to get antibiotics. I asked for a brand I knew didn't make me sick as I had an allergic reaction to a Z-pack before. The doctor insisted I take Levofloxacin (which I never heard of) but he assured me it was safe and told me to take it with the pain pills he prescribed my first visit. I hadn't taken the pain pills because they sounded very strong and I was happy taking advil but he scolded me and said I would be better if I had followed his instructions. I went home with the medicine and took 1 pill. An hour later, I had to go the ER with severe allergic reaction. When I called Medsprings the doctor said, "I can't help you. Call 911." I was treated at the ER and sent home but the effects of the medicine are still present and very upsetting. I can't feel my feet, I have off and on racing heart, sweats, chills, complete lose of appetite. After reading reviews of this medicine, it should only be given as a last resort as it is very strong and very likely to give bad side effects. Worse yet, the side effects are likely to last a long time or be permanent. What is even more maddening, the doctor at Medsprings said to take the medicine with the pain reliever, which fortunately I did not. On the insert it says NOT to take that pain reliever with this medicine as it increases the chances and severity of the adverse reactions!! I feel lucky to be alive this morning but very, very worried about what damage this drug has done to my body. Please do your homework on your medicines and do not just take what they tell is safe. He looked me in the eye and assured me it was the best medicine to take and said he was a doctor because he cares about people. He should of let me know that the severe side effects are common and did I think it was the best drug choice or to go with the other anti-biotic I wanted that I never had side effects from. That is what a caring doctor would do. Please don't let this happen to you. Update: I lost two weeks of work from this medicine and week 3 working was really, really hard as I was still sick and very weak. Week 4, I am finally about 75%. Side effects were so bad my regular doctor had me visit the neurologist. This was all from ONE pill.
So it all starts with me buying my son a basketball goal for the driveway as part of his Christmas. One would think I could easily hurt myself putting that contraption together, no? Nope. I survived. It all started the next day during a game of "P.I.G." We were trying to do the craziest shots to force a letter (one handed backwards, over the back of our shoulders, from the behind the cars) - you get my point... It didn't happen then either. As we finished the game the ball bounced off the rim and I caught it. All of a sudden I felt the most amazing pain. I dropped the ball and looked at my hand. My left pinky finger looked like this: / \ / I calmly walked in the house and let the man of the house know I needed to go see a Dr. - the sooner the better! We started at Cedar Park Hospital ER but after an hour on a gurney in the hallway I decided to leave. All rooms were filled with flu symptom patients. I just wanted to be back home. So we left and drove over to MedSpring. I was in and out in 45 minutes. They immediately took me to a room and before I could get settled I was taken for x-rays. The doctor was waiting when I reentered the room. He looked at it said "gross" and let me know I had dislocated in two directions and in two spots. He was kind enough to deaden my hand and reset my finger. I went back for x-rays again afterwards, given referrals to a hand surgeon, and handed my x-rays on CD. Whaaa'laaaa - done. ~~~~~~~~ True Story: When I got home from MedSpring my son asked me if it hurt. I responded, "yes" He followed with, "but you never cried or seemed upset. You know mom... you handled hurting your finger a lot better than you handled putting the basketball goal together. I really thought you were going break it, throw it, or cry before you finished. I love my son! ~~~~~~~~~ The staff was so nice, helpful, funny and professional. They have a great system down for getting people in and out. I felt I was well taken care of too. Side note, the rooms have TVs etc. for added comfort if you don't have a snickers bar and "not going anywhere for a while."
